Why AI Puppy?
AI Puppy has been a passion for several years as founder Chris Kocks envisioned a way to help prevent injuries from falls that his elderly mother with dementia was experiencing. With each fall she battled and rehabbed back to partial recovery, but continually digressed in health. Serious falls cause numerous deaths in elderly while most injuries cause a persistent decline due to lingering head & organ trauma along with broken bones that limit mobility. That cycle causes a slow transition from living at home to moving into a senior facility to assisted living home, then often to hospice for the most serious cases.
Chris recalls the vision… In 2017 I received a call after landing at an airport that my mother had another serious fall at her assisted living apartment and had been laying on the floor all night before an aide discovered her in the morning. My sister and I had been on a quest to find a tracking solution to prevent her from wandering outside and off premise. We also wanted to be alerted immediately when she fell, to avoid a deteriorating condition and higher medical expense. What emerged was the concept and paper prototype for AI Puppy! For over two years I have been searching for the right mobile robot platform to make AI Puppy a reality. Finally in 2019 I found the right mobile robot upon which to build fall detection/prevention, tele-medicine, proximity tracking, mobile steaming video and many other use cases. Unfortunately my mother passed away in late 2018 and can’t benefit from a solution that she inspired. On the bright side, my mother-in-law has volunteered to be a beta tester. This is an awesome opportunity to positively affect families and we look forward to creating extraordinary value and helping many loved ones age in place safely and comfortably!
